Václav Bláha was born on the 1st April 1949 in Prague into the family of Václav Bláha Sr., who made a major contribution to the development of Czech book illustration and design.

 

Václav Bláha studied from 1964 and 1968 at the Secondary Art School on Hollar Square in Prague, where he befriended a number of future leading figures of his artistic generation.

 

Between 1968 and 1974 he studied at Prof. Arnošt Padelík’s studio of monumental painting at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. He has exhibited solo since 1973.

 

In 1987, along with Vladimír Novák, Petr Pavlík and Michael Rittstein, he became a founding member of the 12/15 Better Late Than Never group. In 1988 he took part in the group’s first exhibition held at the riding hall of Koloděje Castle near Prague, and was subsequently involved in all the group’s activities. He lives and works in Prague.
